Nine ways to make money as a practitioner

Most practitioners earn one way: a person sits in the chair, you do the session, you get paid. Quiet week, no money. Holiday, no money. Here are nine ways to earn from one account, one short video each, and how to set each one up yourself in a few minutes.

Hello, I'm Peter

Hello. I'm Peter Hallford, from Website Designer Derby. I've been building and hosting websites for about twenty-five years, and I'm a hypnotherapist myself.

I built Practitioner because of something I kept seeing. Practitioners are brilliant at the work, and losing clients on the business side: the website that's never quite right, the phone tag, the payments, the admin at eleven at night.

So Practitioner puts the whole thing in one place. Your website, your bookings, your payments, a shop, and a place in the UK directory. One login, and we never take commission on what your clients pay.

A quick honest word. The face you're watching is AI. The voice and the words are mine.

Over the next nine days I'll show you nine ways to earn from one account, one a day, starting tomorrow.

It's practitioner.org.uk. Come and have a look round.

The face in this video is made by AI from a photo of Peter. The voice is his, and so are the words.

The trailer: nine ways from one account

Hello, I'm Peter. Most practitioners earn money one way: a person sits in the chair, you do the session, you get paid. Quiet week, no money. Holiday, no money.

Practitioner gives you nine ways to earn from one account, and every one of them is built in and ready the day you join.

One-to-one sessions, booked online. Online and phone sessions. Packages paid up front. Groups and classes. Gift vouchers. Guides and worksheets. Recordings people listen to at home. Offers that bring in new clients. And wellbeing packages for companies.

Over the next nine short videos I'll show you each one: how it works, and how you set it up yourself in a few minutes.

It's practitioner.org.uk, there's a free trial, and students get two months free.

Way 1 of nine · 60 seconds

One-to-one sessions, booked online

Way one is the one you already do: one-to-one sessions in person. The difference is how people book them.

You set your hours, your breaks and your days off. A client finds your page, picks a time that suits them, and books it, at eleven at night if that's when they finally get a minute. The confirmation, the reminder, the questions form and your client agreement all go out for you.

If you work from home, switch on "chat with me first", and nobody can book until you've spoken to them. You vet every new client before they ever get a time.

And the money goes straight to your own account, by card or PayPal. We never take commission on your bookings. What the client pays is yours.

That's way one. Tomorrow, way two: the clients who never need to come to you at all.

Way 2 of nine · 50 seconds

Online and phone sessions

Way two is online and phone sessions, and it doubles the number of people who can be your client.

Add a video session or a phone session as a type of booking, with its own length and its own price. Someone two hundred miles away books it exactly the way a local client books the chair. The link is in their confirmation. Your evenings fill from anywhere.

It's also the way to offer a free first chat: fifteen minutes, no charge, so a nervous person can hear your voice before they commit. Most of them then book.

Same diary, same reminders, same money straight to you.

Tomorrow, way three: getting paid before the first session.

Way 3 of nine · 53 seconds

Packages of sessions, paid up front

Way three is packages. Most of your clients will see you more than once, so sell the course, not the session.

Set up a package: six sessions, your price, a small saving for buying them together. The client pays once, up front, and the money's in your account before session one. Then each session is booked out of the package, and the system keeps count: "session four of six".

It's better for you, because the cash is in and the client is committed. It's better for them, because they've decided to see it through. And a quiet month doesn't hurt the way it used to, because the money came in earlier.

Tomorrow, way four: one hour, ten clients.

Way 4 of nine · 55 seconds

Group sessions and classes

Way four is groups. A relaxation group on a Tuesday evening, a stop-smoking class, a six-week course, a monthly circle. One hour of your time, ten people paying, which is a very different hourly rate from one person in the chair.

Create the group, set the places and the price, and say whether it repeats every week or every month. People book a place and pay, in person on the day or by card if you prefer. When it's full, the waiting list takes names, and if someone drops out the next person is offered the place without you lifting a finger.

Run your own short programme the same way: four sessions, one price, a group that goes through it together.

Tomorrow, way five: the client who walks in with a present.

Way 5 of nine · 52 seconds

Gift vouchers

Way five is gift vouchers, and they're the quietest earner of the lot.

Your website sells them from day one. Pick a design, set the amounts, and that's it. A daughter buys one for her mum, a husband buys one for Christmas. The voucher is sent on the day the buyer chooses, with their message on it, and it never expires.

You're paid when it's bought, not when it's used. And nearly every voucher brings you someone who has never been before, with the first session already paid for.

November and December are the big months, so set them up now and let them sell while you sleep.

Tomorrow, way six: the thing on your hard drive that should be in your shop.

Way 6 of nine · 43 seconds

Guides and worksheets

Way six is your shop, and the first thing to put in it is already on your computer.

Every practitioner has a guide, a worksheet, a seven-day plan they hand to clients. Upload it. Set a price, or give it away free in exchange for an email address, which is how you build a list of people who'll hear about your next group.

A free guide brings people in. A paid one earns while you're with someone else. Both live on your own website, under your name, and the money goes to you.

Tomorrow, way seven: your voice, earning at three in the morning.

Way 7 of nine · 50 seconds

Recordings to listen to at home

Way seven is recordings. A relaxation track, a sleep recording, a confidence audio that clients listen to between sessions, or buy instead of one.

You don't have to make them to start. Stock your shop from our library the day you join, at your own price, in one click. Then add your own as you go: your voice, your words, sold under your name.

A client buys it at three in the morning, downloads it, listens to it for a year. You've been paid for an hour you never had to give. And it's the hour that keeps them coming back, because your voice is in their house.

Tomorrow, way eight: filling the quiet weeks.

Way 8 of nine · 46 seconds

Offers that bring in new clients

Way eight is offers, for the weeks that go quiet. January. August. The week after half term.

Make an offer: a first session at a lower price, a discount code for the month, a bring-a-friend. It gets its own page on your website, written so Google and the discount-code sites can find it, and it goes out as an email to the people who said they'd like to hear from you, with the UK rules built in so you can't get that wrong.

When the week fills, switch it off. Offers are for empty chairs, not full ones.

Tomorrow, the last one, and the biggest: way nine.

Way 9 of nine · 61 seconds

Wellbeing packages for companies

Way nine is the one almost nobody does, and it's the biggest: wellbeing for companies.

A local firm with thirty staff will pay monthly or yearly for a wellbeing package: a talk, a workshop, a few sessions, a recording made just for them, whatever they need. One invoice, in your practice's name, sent from the system. A company client is worth more than a year of one-to-one bookings, and they tend to renew.

You don't need a corporate background. You need a page that says you do it, a package with a price, and an invoice that looks right. All three are built in.

That's nine ways to earn, from one account, for one price a month, and we never take commission. It's practitioner.org.uk, there's a free trial, and students get two months free.
